Jillian Michaels Found Joy

How Jillian Michaels found joy?

Jillian Michaels is my guest to kick off season 2 of “What’s the Word.” She chose the word reframing, which means “frame or express differently.” In episode 1, Jillian talked about how she found joy, shifted her mindset, overcame failure, and practiced self-care daily.

“Be really careful about negative thinking” - you can lose perspective.

When a lot goes on, personally working on REFRAMING it. Bring meaning to your setbacks. Find the reason or create it and then reframe it.

Jillian Michaels, one of my greatest mentors, owner of Empowered Media, best selling author, host of “Keeping it real” podcast, owner of top wellness app “Fitness App,” serial entrepreneur, and badass mama bear, gave me so many takeaways.

The biggest takeaway from all the GEMS, she said, “Don’t look back on your life and say, “what if” Be without regrets. Make a mistake and learn.”

Watch the whole video, but if you can't, here are the Top 5 Takeaways:

GIVE Meaning to setbacks

Jillian lost a major job opportunity on a TV show. She was humiliated, so bummed, and she even called the producer to ask why she didn’t get it. Eight months later, she landed her role on The Biggest Loser. From losing the first job, Jill learned a valuable lesson and felt prepared for the bigger opportunity.

Practice self-care

10 minutes of meditation at night. Wake up and have a delicious breakfast. Rituals for sanity. Stealing moments for reflection. Have support and help nearby. There are times when you are not going to get there, and it won’t be perfect. Do the best you can with what you have. Can you do things with your kids that bring JOY?

Find moments of JOY

Jillian finds found joy daily with her children. Taking them to get foot massages and enjoy self-care together. When I die, what will my kids say, and how will they remember me? Even when something is bad or upsetting, you have to find joy or create it where you can.

Do the things that you NEED to do

It doesn’t need to be perfect. Even Jill admits missing the gym for five days. You need to make an effort. Control what you can. When you screw up, wake up the next day and make a better decision. Focus on this ONE body you have while you are here.

Be MINDFUL

We live in a world where we wear masks, gloves and do what we need to do to stay HEALTHY, yet we are still eating foods that kill us and not moving our bodies. It is time we take some responsibility for our well-being in all areas. Do the best we can. Be the change we wish to see by prioritizing your joy, even in small moments.

Jill reminds us to ask ourselves WHY. What is the purpose behind what you do? Jillian reminds us all to focus on the things that matter to us. Control the things you can and REFRAME the stuff out of your control.
